Sanitize your hands

Introduce yourself to the examiner

Inspect around for any clues

Note the patients size/weight, look for features of arthritis, COPD, skin disease
(reason for being on long term steroids)

Thin, bruised, hands for fingerpick blood glucose marks, carpal tunnel release, scars, clubbing, tar staining, thenar atrophy, weakness of thumb abduction, reduced sensation of lateral 3-5 fingers, Request a BP, armpits for acanthosis nigricans

VISUAL FIELDS FOR BITEMPORAL HEMIANOPIA.

FACE AND NECK: acne, plethora, facial fullness, hirsutism, acanthosis nigricans

Palpate for spinal tenderness, check for kyphosis (osteoporosis) and interscapular fat pads

Complete Cardiovascular and Respiratory system examination including lymph nodes

(striae, adrenalectomy scars)

Oedema and ask the patient to stand with hands crossed
